Planning/Zoning

Since fall of 2019 we have been working with the Carman-Dufferin Planning District and utilizing their services for building permits, planning permits, etc. This partnership has been working well and as such we are preparing to begin the process of amalgamation with the Carman-Dufferin Planning District.

Further to the Open Houses that were held looking into the potential of joining the Carman-Dufferin Planning District, please find below the voice recordings for the open houses held in Elm Creek and St. Claude.  There is also a Q & A summarizing questions that have been asked about this proposal.  Our next step is to plan for a Public Hearing.  This will be held the second week in January 2022 and notices will be run in the local papers, posted at local businesses, posted on our website, Facebook, and be sent to all postal boxes advising of the details.  If you have any questions on this proposal, please contact Kim Arnal at the RM Office or Tyler King, Director of Economic Development at 204-745-2675.

A building or development permit is required for ALL construction being done within the R.M. of Grey whether it is residential, commercial or farm. Permit fees will be DOUBLE if construction starts before permits are issued.

Permit applications will be done by the Carman-Dufferin Planning District office. Once applications are prepared, they can be sent electronically to applicants or the R.M. of Grey office for signing. Payments can be made at the R.M. of Grey office as well.

For any building or planning related questions or for permit applications please contact Kim at 204-745-2443 or planning@townofcarman.com
